At a glance
A four-hands treatment is performed by two therapists working in mirror image, one on each side of the body, so that the mind cannot follow both rhythms and stops trying. At Navitas Spa, Hilton Istanbul Airport, the four-hands treatment is the Sultan Hammam: the full scrub and foam ritual on the heated marble with two attendants, 50 minutes. What the brain does with two rhythms
With one therapist, part of your attention follows the hands: where they are, where they go next. With two working symmetrically, that tracking fails — there is too much to follow — and attention lets go. Guests describe it as the moment they stopped thinking. It is the same reason a four-hands treatment can feel deeper than its actual pressure.
The Sultan Hammam
Our four-hands ritual is performed on the marble rather than the bed: two attendants pour, scrub, foam and rinse in synchrony, one on each side. The Ottoman palace baths attended the sultan with several servants at once; the name keeps the idea. Book a day ahead — it needs two therapists free at the same time.
Not to be confused with
The Sultan's Massage, which is a single-therapist oil massage on the treatment bed (50 minutes). Both are on the menu; the four-hands one is the hammam.
Frequently asked questions
Is a four-hands treatment firmer?
Not necessarily — it feels deeper because of the synchrony, not the pressure.
Can two guests have it at the same time?
It needs two therapists per guest, so we schedule two guests one after the other.
