What Is the Sultan Hammam?

The four-hands ritual, explained — and how it differs from the Sultan's Massage

By Navitas Spa & SportsPublished: 25 August 20261 min read

At a glance

The Sultan Hammam is the traditional Turkish bath ritual — warmth, kese scrub, foam massage and rinse on the heated marble — performed by two attendants working in synchrony, one on each side. At Navitas Spa, Hilton Istanbul Airport, it lasts 50 minutes; ask us on WhatsApp for the current price. It is not the Sultan's Massage, which is a single-therapist oil massage on the treatment bed.

The idea

In the palace baths of the Ottoman court the sultan was attended by several bath servants at once. The Sultan Hammam keeps the principle: two attendants, four hands, the whole ritual in mirror image.

Frequently asked questions

Is it worth the difference?

For a special occasion or if you have had the classic ritual and want more, yes — the synchrony is a different experience, not just a longer one.
