1. 01You change into a pestemal — a thin cotton wrap — with swimwear underneath if you like. Slippers and towels are waiting.
2. 02You lie on the göbek taşı, the heated marble platform, while your attendant pours warm water over you from a copper bowl. Ten minutes; the skin softens.
3. 03The kese: a rough mitt over the whole body in firm strokes. Dead skin lifts away in small grey rolls. It is vigorous, never painful — say so if you want it lighter.
4. 04The foam: a cloth filled with olive-oil soap and air is squeezed into a cloud that covers you, then worked in with long strokes. This is the part people remember.
5. 05A rinse, a fresh wrap, and a rest with tea on the heated loungers. Then a shower and your clothes.
