The words of the hammam
Kese
The rough-textured mitt used to exfoliate the whole body

- kese · /keh-SEH/
A mitt of coarse-woven silk, goat hair or synthetic fibre that the attendant works over the softened skin in firm strokes, lifting away dead cells in visible grey rolls. The kese is what makes the hammam different from any other spa treatment — the skin afterwards is new. At Navitas Spa a fresh kese is used for every guest and is yours to keep or buy from the boutique.
The word also names the treatment: “kese” alone means the scrub, and “kese-köpük” the scrub and foam ritual.
