A flat-woven cotton cloth, striped or checked, tied around the waist (men) or the chest (women) in the bath. It dries quickly, stays modest when wet and doubles as a towel. Every guest at Navitas Spa receives a fresh peştemal; swimwear may be worn beneath it. The peştemal has become a beach towel worldwide, but its home is the hammam.
