High wooden pattens, often inlaid with mother-of-pearl in the Ottoman period, worn to keep the feet above the hot, wet marble floor. You will see a pair in our hammam set beside the copper bowl; today's guests wear the spa's slippers, which do the same job with less risk to the ankles.
